Chicken Change LLC is a Texas-based holding company that builds and owns focused software businesses.
Why a holding company
Most software companies are built to be sold. That shapes everything — what gets built, who it's built for, and how long anyone sticks around to maintain it. We wanted the opposite: companies that are built to be kept.
So Chicken Change owns its companies outright and runs them for the long term. Each one has its own team, brand and customers. Underneath, they share engineering, design, infrastructure and finance, so every team can stay small and spend its time on the product.
What we look for
Software for work that's shared between several people — crews, floors, teams — where the money and the credit are easy to get wrong. Turnline, our first company, is exactly that: a contribution ledger and payout engine for crew-based service businesses.
We'd rather build one thing well than spread thin across many, and we'd rather ship something we can explain clearly than something that just works and hopes you don't ask how.
The name
“Chicken change” is small, loose money — the amount too small to bother counting carefully on its own. It's a fitting name for a group whose companies track exactly those everyday amounts, the ones that are easy to lose and easy to get wrong. Small change, held patiently, compounds. We think the name undersells what we're building. We're fine with that.
The mark
Our mark is a nest egg. The heavy, coin-cut C is the change — small, solid, easy to overlook. The egg leaving through its mouth, up and to the right, is what that change becomes when it's held patiently.
A nest egg is money set aside to grow. That's the whole idea of this company, drawn in two shapes.
